How to use AIRec
A complete, step-by-step guide from your first recording to editing and sharing. It takes about five minutes to read.
Prefer YouTube? Open the video there.
Install AIRec and open it
Install AIRec from Google Play and open it. The Home screen shows a big record button and your recording setup (Resolution, Frame rate, Quality and Audio). Nothing needs an account or sign-in.
Run the setup check (one minute)
Open Settings → Reliability → Setup and health. It lists what AIRec needs and lets you allow each item with one tap:
- Notifications: shows the recording status and the Stop button. Android requires a visible notification while recording.
- Microphone: needed only to record your voice. Recording without audio always works.
- Floating ball (display over other apps): optional, lets you control a recording from any screen.
- Keep recordings alive: turn off battery optimization for AIRec so the phone does not end long recordings. On some phones (Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung) also allow AIRec to run in the background or autostart in the phone’s app settings.
Choose your recording setup
On the Home screen tap each row to change it:
- Resolution: Auto, or 480p up to 2880p. For most uses 1080p is perfect.
- Frame rate: Auto, or 24, 30, 60, 90, 120 fps. Use 60 for games and fast scrolling, 30 for lessons and slides.
- Quality: Data saver, Balanced, High or Ultra.
- Audio: No audio, Microphone, Internal audio or Internal + Mic.
Set up your voice
Open Settings → Microphone enhancement:
- Noise reduction: Off, Standard (steady noise), Strong (noisy rooms) or AI (cleans after you stop and also reduces crying, animals, horns and sudden bangs, but saving takes longer).
- Echo cancellation: leave on Auto so the phone’s speaker sound is not recorded twice.
- Voice enhancement: Natural, Clear or Studio.
Then open Settings → Audio → Test microphone, speak for 10 seconds and compare Play original with Play processed. If it is too quiet or too loud, change the microphone volume.
Settings → Microphone enhancementSettings → AudioPick video options (optional)
In Settings → Video choose the video format (H.264 works everywhere; H.265 makes smaller files) and the orientation. Choose Landscape for games.
Settings → VideoSet the controls you like
In Settings → Controls you can turn on a countdown, a timed recording that stops by itself, Shake to stop, Stop when the screen turns off, the screenshot preview notification and Show touches (a dot where you touch; it asks for the “Modify system settings” permission).
In Settings → Floating ball choose the ball size and transparency, whether it hides while recording and whether it shows only when a recording starts or all the time.
Settings → ControlsSettings → Floating ballStart recording
Tap the big red record button on Home. Android asks whether AIRec may capture your screen (it asks every time, for your safety). Allow it, wait for the countdown if you turned it on, then go to the app or game you want to record.
Control the recording
You can control the recording in four ways:
- Notification: pull down the notification and tap Pause or Stop.
- Floating ball: tap it to open the menu with the timer in the middle and Pause, Stop, Draw and Screenshot around it. Drag the ball anywhere, or drop it on the X to hide it until the next recording.
- Shake: shake the phone to stop (if turned on).
- Quick Settings tile: start from the tile in your quick panel.
Use Draw to annotate live with the pen, smart-shape pen, highlighter, box, circle, arrow or line. Use Screenshot to grab a still image.
Floating ball menuStop and save
When you stop, AIRec finishes the video. You see a percentage in the record button, in the notification and in a window that appears over whatever app you are in. When it is done, the window offers Play, Share, Edit and Delete (Delete asks you to confirm), plus a one-line performance summary.
The video is already in your gallery, in the Movies folder inside a folder named AIRec.
Saved-recording windowFind and manage recordings
Open the Library tab. Videos and Screenshots have their own tabs. Tap a video to play it, or open its menu to share, rename, edit, see details or move it to the trash. Items in the trash can be restored for 30 days (Android 11 or newer).
LibraryEdit your video
Open the Edit tab, choose a tool and then a video:
- Trim: keep only the part you need.
- Cut middle: remove a section from the middle.
- Smart silence removal: cuts long pauses automatically.
- Speed: slow motion or fast forward (audio is removed).
- Merge: join two recordings made with the same settings.
- Remove audio: a silent copy.
- Extract audio: saves the sound as an .m4a file in Music/AIRec.
Edits never change your original. The result is saved as a new file.
Edit tabCheck the performance report
Tap Performance in the saved-recording window or open Settings → Performance report. It shows the frame rate that reached the video, temperature and heat, battery used and AIRec’s own load, with tips. If the phone got hot or frames dropped, try 30 fps or a lower resolution.
Settings → Performance reportTips by use
For gamers
- Choose Landscape, 1080p and Auto frame rate (or 60 fps).
- Use the floating ball or shake to stop, so you never need to leave the game.
- If the phone gets warm, try 30 fps, close other apps and check the performance report.
- Internal audio from some games is blocked by the game. Add your microphone if that happens.
For teachers and tutors
- Use 1080p at 30 fps with High quality: sharp text, small files.
- Turn on Show touches and use Draw to point at things.
- Run Test microphone once, then use Standard or AI noise reduction with the Studio voice.
- Trim the start and end, and use Smart silence removal to cut pauses.
For creators and reviewers
- Use Internal + Mic with smart ducking so music dips while you talk.
- Adjust Internal audio volume in Settings → Audio for the right balance.
- If voice and picture are slightly out of step, use Audio sync adjustment.
- Share straight from the saved-recording window.
Troubleshooting
There is no sound from the phone (internal audio)
Internal audio needs Android 10 or newer. Some apps (for example some games, streaming and banking apps) block their sound from being recorded and Android enforces this, so AIRec cannot override it. AIRec shows “Internal audio is blocked by this app” when it happens. Choose Internal + Mic or Microphone and play the sound through the speaker.
My voice is silent or very quiet
Check that the microphone permission is allowed in Setup and health, and that no other app (a call, a voice recorder) is using the microphone. Then open Settings → Audio → Test microphone. If it says the sound is very quiet, raise the microphone volume or move the phone closer.
The recording stopped by itself
The usual reasons are low storage, the phone ending the app to save battery, a timed recording, Stop when the screen turns off, or the system stopping screen capture. Allow “Keep recordings alive” in Setup and health, free up some storage, and check Settings → Controls. If a recording was interrupted, use Settings → Reliability → Recover unfinished recordings.
The phone gets hot or the game lags
Lower the load: use 1080p, 30 fps (or Auto), Balanced quality, turn off AI noise reduction if you do not need it, and close other apps. Open the performance report to see temperature, frame rate and AIRec’s own load for your last recordings.
Saving takes a long time
AI noise reduction cleans the audio after you stop, which takes extra time on longer recordings. Switch to Standard or Strong for faster saving. Keep the phone on until the percentage reaches 100.
I cannot find my video
Open the Library tab. Videos are saved in your gallery under Movies, inside a folder named AIRec (you can change the folder name in Settings → Storage). If you moved a video to the trash, restore it from Library → Trash.
The floating ball does not appear
Allow “Display over other apps” for AIRec in Setup and health, and make sure the ball is set to show when recording starts (Settings → Floating ball). If you dropped it on the X, it comes back when the next recording starts.
Show touches does not show dots
It needs the “Modify system settings” permission. AIRec tells you if your phone does not allow it. Some phone brands restrict this setting; if so, turn on “Show taps” in Developer options.
Voice and video are slightly out of sync
Open Settings → Audio → Audio sync adjustment and delay or advance the audio. Positive values delay the audio.
